(00) Overview

A shape-shifting identity for a three-night electronic festival on the Baltic coast. One modular type system, six thousand generated posters and a motion language built to be projected on fog.

(01) The challenge

(01) The challenge

Festivals live and die on their posters, but Low Tide’s lineup changes up to the final week. They needed an identity that could absorb chaos without looking chaotic.

A system, not a poster

We designed a modular grid of letterforms that compress and stretch with the tempo of each headliner’s set. Feed it a name and a BPM, and it builds its own poster.

On site, the same system drove LED walls, wristbands and a stage projection mapped onto a curtain of fog.

The poster is never finished. It keeps moving until the last track ends.

(03) Process & exploration

We built the generator in a week, then spent a month breaking it: testing names with twenty-six characters, lineups in three alphabets and screens the size of a postage stamp.

(04) Outcome

Low Tide sold out two months earlier than the previous year. The poster generator was opened to fans, who made over six thousand of their own.
